The right-wing, billionaire-backed Moms for Liberty is a group that pushes a white supremacist agenda in public schools. This group was initially at the forefront promoting disinformation and conspiracy theories about the COVID-19 pandemic, but as that died down, they moved on to attack any curriculum that deals with Black history or even mentions LGBTQ topics. In addition, multiple chapters have campaigned to ban books at school libraries that discuss race or sexual orientation. The Miami-Dade chapter claimed credit for banning Amanda Gorman’s poetry on overcoming adversity. The member who complained turned out to have had made multiple anti-Semitic posts.
The group has routinely engaged in intimidation by targeting teachers, administrators, parents, and school board members with harassment campaigns that have left people fearing for their lives. Most of the chapters have developed close ties to hate groups, such as the Proud Boys, Three Percenters, and various QAnon clubs. Moms for Liberty is known for showing up to school boards with these known hate groups who advocate for violence. The Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate groups nationwide, even labeled Moms for Liberty as an “anti-government extremist” group.
The Hamilton County chapter of Moms for Liberty is the one that published a newsletter prominently featuring a quote from Adolf Hitler. There was an extreme backlash, and they later apologized. Yet during a board meeting attended by that same chapter, a man proposed that the group atone by observing a moment of silence for the Holocaust victims.
As soon as that was initiated, the Moms for Liberty members started intentionally and loudly hacking and coughing to disrupt.
Man: “I’m going to use the rest of my time for a moment of silence in response to Moms for Liberty who quoted Adolf Hitler in their newsletter, saying “He who controls the youth, controls the world.” Take a moment of silence to think about what that means.”
Moms for Liberty members: *Cough*Hack*COUGH” COUGH*
Woman sitting near man in response: “Oh, that’s so pathetic.”
Unsurprisingly, it doesn’t look like they were too sorry about featuring Hitler at all. The man demanded his time back because the moment of silence was interrupted. The committee member instead asked the police to remove him.
Just another reminder of who these people really are. Share this when their members run for school board or when Republican candidates start campaigning with these bigots. They can’t hide who they are.
