Because I watched the Daily Show, read Daily Kos, Wonkette and other blogs, and saw rare mentions on MSNBC, I was aware of Donald Trump’s non-sensical babbling, misuse of words, glaring mistakes, episodes of confusion, gaffes and other examples of mental decline not to mention obvious physical limitations. However, to my perhaps biased recollection, I don’t recall the various online news services, and mainstream media devoting much if any attention to his age, physical limitations and suitability to be President, nor do I recall them repeating willy nilly attacks on the President. To the contrary, Donald Trump could deliver an unhinged and incoherent rant, and the media would report it as “Donald Trump attacks Democrats” or some other innocuous cleaning up of his word salad.
Instead, now there seems to be non-stop and unrelenting attacks on President Biden and Vice President Harris everywhere I look.
There is one aspect of my life in which this is particularly glaring. I’ve noticed this for some time, but I bring this up because I recently started to have to use Microsoft’s Edge Browser to access my work because of problem using Chrome and when I open it I am immediately assaulted by a non-stop barrage of propaganda, regurgitated from Fox News, the Telegraph (?) and something called 1945 and other sources on something called “My Feed.”
Just some examples of links with headlines that popped up on the news page from Tuesday June 27 (some identified as opinion):
1945: “Joe Biden could soon face an impeachment disaster.”
1945: “Joe Biden has no clue what he is doing.”
NYP: Joe Biden’s ‘Malarkey’ on Hunter fits right in with all his other lies”
Mediaite: ‘It Smells Bad’ Nikki Haley suggests “Biden’s love for his son is greater than his love for his country.”
Fox Business: LARRY KUDLOW: It was ‘clear’ that Garland’s DOJ was ‘protecting’ Hunter Biden
Fox News: The Five: Kamala Harris is the least liked VP in history……..”
Daily Caller: Hunter Biden moved Burisma cash through China, 2nd IRS whistleblower says”
Rare: “Biden admits to illegally holding classified documents back to his time in the U.S. Senate”
Fox News: “Ned Ryun: Kamala is a bridge too far even for Dems.”
Mediaite: Martha MacCallum speculates that Joe Biden was financially dependent on son Hunter...”
Fox News: “Nothing to see here. Dems ignore alleged Biden corruption.”
Interspersed among this barrage I found two articles that might be a little favorable to Joe Biden — one fact checking whether he said he stole state secrets (from Snopes) and one saying he would give a speech on Bidennomics (CNBC) and one from Mediaite saying that Trump’s lawyer gave a laughable explanation for the stolen documents. An 11 to 3 ratio.
I am sick of this assymetrical warfare, although I don’t know what to do about it. And why did Microsoft decide that “My Feed” should be stuffed full of conservative propaganda? While their tab for “news” is more balanced, this is just wrong.
