In the face of the flood of released tapes where TFG further incriminates himself, and in the whirlwind of denials and obfuscations, it’s easy to lose sight of a deeper meaning behind the howling lies.
The Hill
In addition to calling the tapes that CNN acquired an exoneration, Trump also says that he was just brandishing papers saying that he had the proof, but there were actually no classified documents there.
While you, and I, everyone else knows that’s just a flat-out lie, his categorization of his motive for doing this matters. “It was bravado.”
Let’s make sure we understand this. The former leader of the free world feels the need to impress the ghostwriters for his Chief of Staff? Ghostwriters are, by definition, nobodies. They exist not to exist. And yet Trump felt the need to aggrandize himself to them.
The reasons for not putting this guy back in the White House are legion, but I have to say, this is one of the times when his choice of self-excusing is just further incrimination. This denial is horrible, making it clear that Trump is so desperate for any adulation that he will spout about sensitive intelligence to anyone.
