UPDATE: This story becomes darker, as Trump himself allegedly doxxed former President Obama.
Earlier Thursday, a Truth Social account that uses the same screen name that Taranto uses on other social media accounts re-posted a Trump post that included what is alleged to be the address of Obama’s home in Washington and noted that the home is near a mosque. “Got them surrounded!” the Truth Social account wrote.
Doxxing is when a person exposes the private information of a targeted individual, publicly posting an address or contact information with the intent of harrassment or harm. It is very illegal. Especially against a former President.
To be more direct, it appears that a post allegedly made by Trump with the Obama address was then found, and re-posted by the suspect. It is not yet known at this time if Mr. Taranto had prior knowledge of the address, or obtained the knowledge through Mr. Trump’s alleged post.
An accused J6 sympathizer that is alleged to have been openly live streaming and publishing direct threats against Former President Barack Obama’s home and other officials, has been arrested near the Obama home.
Taylor Taranto, 37, of no fixed address, was in the 2400 block of Kalorama Road, Northwest Thursday afternoon when he was arrested on a fugitive charge on an existing arrest warrant, D.C. Police said. Taranto has a warrant related to his alleged involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol raid, a source told ABC News.
ABC News learned that Taranto is a defendant named in a civil lawsuit brought by the widow of D.C. Police officer Jeffrey Smith, who died by suicide following the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. People online identified Taranto in 2021 as having entered the Capitol and was accused of aiding another rioter, David Walls-Kaufman, in attacking Officer Smith. While Taranto denies aiding Walls-Kaufman, he allegedly admitted to entering the Capitol on his social media, ABC News said.
According to ABCNews, the threat was not against the President directly but rather his house, which speaking from the perspective of someone inside of a building, seems like a distinction with limited difference.
I can’t stress enough that in the judicial process, means to carry out an act is a huge component in the viability and severity of charges.
At the time of Taranto's arrest, he allegedly had guns and ammunition in his car, sources told ABC News. Taranto also reportedly had materials in his car to make "at least one Molotov cocktail," law enforcement sources told ABC News.
Also for some reason, this person allegedly made threats against Representative Jamie Raskin, D-MD 8th, and according to sources said he wanted the congressperson “all to himself.”
This will be updated as needed.
An important side note is that CBSNews reporter Jeff Pegues has been assigned to the story, and online trolls are ridiculing his voice. If you run into run of these, please educate them on Mr. Pegues’s condition.
He was eventually diagnosed with spasmodic dysphonia, a neurological condition that causes an involuntary tightening in one's vocal cords. Though the disorder doesn't have a known cure as of this writing, Jeff has since confirmed with medical professionals that his condition was brought on by severe anxiety.
People that are able to overcome obstacles are to be celebrated, not humiliated. This is unrelated to the specifics of the charges, but something that irked me in any case.
At any rate, our friends and leaders may have well been in danger and this is just a microsample of the cultural rot the far right has wrought upon this nation.
