Many people here on DK have asked what can be done to mitigate global warming, or said we need to come up with a plan or develop new technology. There is a already complete plan and technology available in the discipline known as Permaculture, which was developed by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren in the 1970s.
“Permaculture is the conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally productive ecosystems which have the diversity, stability, and resilience of natural ecosystems. It is the harmonious integration of landscape and people — providing their food, energy, shelter, and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way.” Permaculture A Designers Manual by Bill Mollison
The great thing about permaculture is you can engage in it at any level. You can ease in with small changes to your life, or you can dive in and change your life completely, it’s up to you.
I want to be sure to point out that I’m not saying this is the only way forward, just that it is a way which has been developed in a very detailed way and is practiced by large numbers of people across the globe. It’s not the solution to climate change, but it might be a solution.

Many of my links are garden-related because that’s my main focus, but one can engage this from a more technical end if that’s your interest. Energy, housing design, water, waste, materials, engineering of structures, all kinds of scientific inquiry can be approached through the lens of permaculture.
I hope people interested in solutions will spend time looking through this information.
