You can make a difference to the hurt being caused by climate chaos and the great extinction event, in your town or your city! How? Reuse, repurpose, and recycle this information.
This is the letter for week 25 of a weekly climate strike that went on for 4 years in front of San Francisco City Hall, beginning early March 2019. For more context, see this story. For an annotated table of contents to see topics for all the strike letters, see this story.
STRIKE FOR THE PLANET
because we have to act now.
Argue that human groups can’t make big changes fast,
but that won’t stop physics making this planet uninhabitable if we don’t make big changes now.
If you’re not panicked, you aren’t paying attention. Prove you’re paying attention.
This week’s topic is the Climate Strike this Friday.
What Is It
The strike aims to stop business per usual, because business per usual is killing us,
To focus worldwide attention on what’s happening to life on this planet,
To get everyone worldwide working on what has to be done,
And to force local leadership to respond.
What We’re Striking For
The demands are:
a Green New Deal (with 100% renewable energy clean economy by 2030),
respect for indigenous land and sovereignty,
environmental justice,
protection and restoration of biodiversity, and
implementation of sustainable agriculture.
For more on these, see https://strikewithus.org/#demands at The Sunrise Movement website.
Why Should You Participate, Too
You can introduce yourself to local and international climate activists.
You can find out more about environmental action and who to work with on these issues.
You can work on building a constituency for environmental action.
You can be active in working to fix the existential crisis of life on our planet.
What Will It Accomplish
Public info – the more people know, the more likely action can happen
Focusing on specific global goals
Putting forces for death on notice that they can’t destroy with impunity
Organization
Joy and anger
When Is It
This Friday. Two days from now. Join up at Civic Center and Market shortly after 10 a.m..
Where Is It
It starts with the youth meeting in front of Pelosi’s office, marching to Civic Center (at Market) where the adults are expected to join up, and then proceeding from there via some interesting stops on the way to end at the Embarcadero.
We’re at 68 weeks left in which to act, and counting. Act now! Join the march.
