I read an article over at Salon by Gabriella Ferringine about how a major number personal donations for the $6600 maximum allowable donation to a campaign are coming from Republican donors going to conspiracy theorist and anti-vaxxer Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Kennedy's campaign since June 30 has collected maximum $6,600 donations from 96 individuals — 37 of whom have only donated to Republican federal candidates, according to the analysis. Only 19 have a history of supporting Democrats, while 30 others have no giving history, eight others gave to members of both parties, and two others supported Libertarian or alternative candidates.
Some of the donors have a history of having heavily contributed to Trump or the Republican National Committee. Ferringine cites an article on Federal Elections Commission’s filings by Popular Information which goes into greater depth.
In addition to the individual contributions, Kennedy also received $6,600 from Purple Good Government PAC, a committee controlled by David Sacks, an investor publicly backing Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis. American Values 2024, a Super PAC supporting Kennedy, said it raised $10.25 million in the first half of the year. As a Super PAC, it is not required to disclose its donors until the end of July. But the group's co-chair indicated that about 50% of the money came from Republican donors. A second Super PAC supporting Kennedy, Common Sense PAC, has not released any information about its fundraising.
That Popular Information article goes on to list some of those top donors to their affiliations with Republican campaigns or organizations. It also mentions Steve Bannon’s encouraging of RFK Jr. and even of how Trump...
...encouraged Kennedy to "hang in" the presidential race and praised him as "very smart;" Trump said they had a lot in common.
Yeah. I bet they do. A ringing endorsement. Along with that article listing the right wing history of many of the donors it also points out RFK Jr.’s apparent comfort and familiarity with far right groups. It points out that on July 20th the candidate will attend a hearing of the Republican-led House Judiciary Select Subcommittee. As a star witness no less, regarding the ongoing GQP witch hunts as the Freedom Caucus representatives improve the Weaponization of the Federal Government. While reputedly trying to save us from that.
Which is a bit confusing to me. As is one of our own presidential candidates aiding and abetting the trashing of government norms which are being blamed on his own party. My head hurts trying to sort that out.
And let's least of all not forget his lawsuit against Daily Kos and a member of our community as well. It would be nice if people with the forensic chops can see if any of those campaign donations are funding those suits.
But moreover, for any of your less informed liberal friends, help them with the reminder to always follow the money. Show them that this guy is the antithesis of a liberal Democrat despite his family lineage. Perhaps Kennedy has promised to change his party affiliation to these donors if he wins. I wouldn't put it past him. Let's go out of our way to discredit this embarrassment of a candidate to anyone who supports our values. Let's keep creeping conspiracy nuts from infiltrating our party and culture.
