THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! I have met the goal with a bit extra, I will put that toward a graduation gown so I can walk with the rest of the students. I really appreciate this community and the generosity of Kossacks, I’m truly humbled. Again, thank you all so much!
I put some gas in the tank, and got a soda refill ($0.97) because it’s hot as hades today. The rest of the money is in my savings account until I can order the book/access this week sometime. I go out to the lab on Tuesday.
I’m a senior at University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and I have one class left to graduate in December. Good news, right?
Not so much in this case. I got a grant that will cover tuition, just barely, and leave approximately $56 for books. The problem is that there is a required book — the cheapest I can find a used copy is $70 plus tax from the publisher as a rental — and an online component as well, that the cheapest access I can find is on Amazon at $50.38 plus tax. Turns out that is the wrong access, and I can’t find a cheap one, so it’s actually $127.58 plus tax for that. I also have to pay a $90 fee to graduate before Sept 22nd.
I don’t have that kind of money, I’m on SSDI and pretty much everything goes to bills — I live in a property owned by my family so I don’t have to worry about being homeless, but everything else is my responsibility. Mum is on a fixed income and will lose her freaking mind if I ask her for money, she recently put a roof on her house and is being extra cheap right now.
I started this degree in 1995 and dropped out due to lack of funds before. I really don’t want to quit now this close to the finish line. I need help with the costs of the books and access to get it done.
I’m asking for $175 $250. $200. $100. GOAL MET!!!! That should cover it all with the $56 I should get back, and let me finish, even if I don’t get to walk in a gown, I can at least graduate. It’s not quite the way I wanted to finish, but it will get the job done.
I have a half ass computer, I can get a cheap notebook at Dollar Tree. I have a scientific calculator. I should have enough gas to get back and forth to campus, but I may need to drop out of the research lab I’m in due to the gas cost to get out there and check on the fish. The lab is giving me an undergrad research credit, and was my key to getting into grad school in the fall of next year, but if I don’t have the bachelors I can’t apply for a masters and get student loans. So I might still be fucked in the future, but one bridge at a time.
I’ve worked hard to get to this point, and it’s killing me to falter this close to the end of step one. Any thing you can do I would appreciate.

I will update with a running total of any and all donations, and appreciate any help on offer.
