It's letter writing time again!
This is a great way to influence the outcome of races outside your own territory—or inside, if you aren't the kind of person who can phone canvass or door to door (I am not). Letters increase turnout by three or four percent, which is enough to make the critical difference. I was excited this winter when I got to be part of the victory for a liberal Supreme Court justice in Wisconsin! So yes, even though it is not 2024 yet, it is time to start writing letters.
Vote Forward has three campaigns underway right now. You can read about them here: VoteForward – Choose a campaign (votefwd.org)
I am writing letters to Ohio in opposition to the Republican effort to make it harder to pass initiatives there. I have written 105 letters so far. Read about it here: VoteForward (votefwd.org) The time to write to Ohio is RIGTH NOW!
I am also writing postcards for Postcards to Swing States here: Postcards to Swing States - Progressive Turnout Project (turnoutpac.org)
I am closing in on one hundred postcards.
I try to do ten a day. The cost of postage is a limiting factor for me. I am currently using stamps sent to me by a wonderful Kossak, but will reach the end soon. That will probably mean I won't be writing more than fifty a month, unless someone wants to send me some stamps. I am reliable—I will write letters and postcards to use up any stamps anyone sends me!
So please, people, write some letters and postcards! Put on some music, get comfortable, take your time and don't overload yourself. It isn't hard to knock out ten to twenty while relaxing in the evening.
Thank you!
