Admin Note: An earlier version of this story’s headline misidentified Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp. It’s been corrected and we apologize for the error.
I looked and I did not see this headlined, and it may be buried in another diary.
Kemp is one of the most devastating practitioners of voter suppression, so this surprised me. But Kemp and Trump have had a turbulent history more recently, and it seems to have become very personal.
I think these kinds of public messages are very important in attempts to put RWNJs in check from escalating their lies for the “trial by public opinion”. Even when Trump is settling into prison and hawking adulterated ramen to people, we will still be dealing with those anti-democratic forces. From yesterday’s Guardian:
“The 2020 election in Georgia was not stolen. For nearly three years now, anyone with evidence of fraud has failed to come forward – under oath – and prove anything in a court of law,” Kemp wrote in his tweet.
“Our elections in Georgia are secure, accessible, and fair and will continue to be as long as I am governor. The future of our country is at stake in 2024 and that must be our focus.”
Kemp’s message was immediately endorsed by Chris Christie, the Republican former governor of New Jersey who is challenging Trump for the party’s 2024 presidential nomination.
“This is a strong leader telling the truth. Others should try it,” Christie wrote on Twitter, taking his own dig at Trump’s honesty.
Raffensperger also delivered a pithy fact yesterday:
"The most basic principles of a strong democracy are accountability and respect for the Constitution and rule of law," Raffensperger said Tuesday morning. "You either have it, or you don't."
