In the category of we don’t need this comes a story from my new hometown of Alamogordo, New Mexico. The local Democratic Party organization is self-destructing, with allegations of harassment against women and financial impropriety flying hither and yon.
For background, the City of Alamogordo (pop. 31,652) is located in south-central New Mexico and is situated in Otero County (pop. 68,537). Alamogordo is famous for the July 1945 Trinity nuclear bomb test at the Alamogordo Bombing and Gunnery Range (renamed White Sands Proving Ground just before the test).
J. Robert Oppenheimer, of recent movie fame, chose the code name Trinity.
Back to the story, a recent article in the Alamogordo Conservative Daily (because of course they’re laughing their butts off at Democratic antics) headlined Women Allege Harassment and Intimidation by Leadership of Democratic Party of Otero County lays out the sordid details.
More background: Otero County, although located in the blue state of New Mexico voted 61.6% to 36% for Trump over Biden. (Boo!!) There’s a heavy military and ex-military presence here due to nearby Holloman Air Force Base, and this influences the vote in a negative way.
Please hold while I share this photo of White Sands National Park. The sand is, literally, white.
Meanwhile, back to the article:
...several local women who have been Otero County Democratic party activists break their silence about the harassment and intimidation by CCC leader Matt C. and the protection afforded to him by the party chair.

I won’t go in to all the gory details. If you’d like, you can read the poorly written article yourself. (Good luck!) Of note is that the party chair mentioned is a 21 year old woman, and she is evidently supporting the actions of the misogynist. In addition, a recent party meeting at a local restaurant ended with police called and the group being told by restaurant management, “Y'all DON’T come back now, ya hear”. Yeesh!
I wonder if this sort of thing is what Jason Aldean had in mind when he wrote “Try That in a Small Town”?
Anyhow, there you have it, folks. Intrigue! Drama! Turmoil! Politics! Everything but people working together to grow Democratic Party membership and solve the urban blight problem leftover from business failures during the Covid-19 pandemic. To paraphrase the sign in the opening photo, “We can do better than this!”
