...you wanted to run for political office, in fact you had run before. You filled out all your forms in a timely fashion, got your signatures, paid your fees and turned all of that into your local party on time. Then your local party fucked up.
What to do now? Give up? Not be able to run? No! That would be too small minded. Not what democracy is about at all. What can happen is the local committee realizes their mistake and takes it to the state party where it gets fixed by the board of Elections.
That’s what happens if you’re a Republican anyway. You can see the details of 2 times when it happened for Republicans in the tweets below.
We know this is a fixable problem because the Republican Party in Virginia fixed it for their candidates. Oddly, and by oddly, I mean fucked up, petty, small minded, and stupid, the local Democratic Party in Virginia is NOT fixing this for their candidates.
One of whom is Trudy Berry. She did everything right. Everything she was supposed to do. She did it on time too. The local Democratic Party fucked it up somehow though. They were late turning paperwork in or sent it to the wrong email address, I don’t know. What I know is that they fucked up and are too small to step up and fix their mistake. They went to the state party for help, and the Democratic State Party threw up their hands and said they couldn’t help. (Wow, is the state Republican party smarter, more powerful, more competent? Why can they fix this kind of shit, but the Democratic Party can’t?)
It’s time for us here at Daily Kos to step up and help. We can help two ways. We can bombard the Board of Elections with phone calls- (804) 864-8901 or email.
We could also raise some money for Trudy. One thing the Republicans did was have lawyers speak for them before the Board of Elections. We can help with that! DONATE
That’s the kind of stuff we do, because I don’t know about the local VA Democratic parties but here at Daily Kos we’re all about electing more and better Democrats. Trudy Berry is one of those. Let’s help her get elected, starting with getting her on the ballot.
