So, I was watching MSNBC tonight and they were talking about the (3rd) indictment and Trump’s appearance in Federal court today in D.C. Alex Wagner was interviewing Tim Parlatore, one of Trump’s many former lawyers, one who has admitted he isn’t a Trump lawyer any more because Trump doesn’t take legitimate legal advice (and he doesn’t pay his bills). Parlatore was trying not to step in it, trying not to smirk while carefully parsing his words as she asked him about the chances of Trump getting past Jack Smith’s air-tight case, and his opinion of putting Trump on the stand, when I noticed his lapel pin.
I had never seen one like it. I’ve seen a variety of MAGA flags, the ever-popular Confederate Battle Flag, the “Don’t Tread on Me” rattlesnake one, and even the “thin blue line” one that is flown in support of LEOs (all too often when they have shot some unarmed POC or otherwise done the wrong thing). This was a black American flag.
I had to look it up on the internet. Apparently, it is a message to US. It originated in the Civil War, was flown by the Confederates, and its message is, “No quarter will be given”. In other words, we aren’t surrendering, and if we catch you, we will not take prisoners, we will kill you all.
Here’s a link to a Salon article about that flag, which apparently a lot of Republicans are displaying lately: www.salon.com/… it is called: “Blackflag: Understanding the Trumpists' latest threatening symbol” I found the image up above on Pinterest where the flags were on sale.
On a day when the only person besides Trump with even a tiny chance of gaining the GOP nomination to run for President next year stated more than once that if he is elected, “slitting throats will begin on day one”, I was chilled to see Parlatore on MSNBC wearing that lapel pin. More so even than seeing the idiots in the “Freedom” Caucus wearing their assault rifle pins in the halls of Congress. At least the press covered that bit of insanity. It chilled me because Alex didn’t even ask about the black flag. It went without any sort of challenge. That little message went out so that everyone in Trump world would know Parlatore may be playing both sides but his real loyalty is to those who want to bring our government down in a bloody Civil War. And the joke was on her (and us) since she didn’t even notice or question it.
Somehow we need to alert the 60% of the country that wants what our Founders bequeathed to us to persist to the very real threat posed by the 30% who want to tear it all down. They don’t just want to drive us out of their neighborhoods/states by censoring books, taking away our bodily autonomy, endangering our right to vote, threatening our children, and calling us every name in the book. They want to kill us.
