Reuter’s is reporting on a recent poll they did with Ipsos, which has some pretty sobering findings:
When asked whether they would vote for Trump if he was convicted of a felony by a jury of his peers, only a minority of 45% of Republicans said they would not vote for him. About 35% of Republicans said they would still vote for him, and the rest said they don’t know.
When asked whether they would vote for Trump if he was convicted and sitting in a prison cell, only a slight majority of 52% of Republicans said they would not vote for him. About 28% of Republicans said they would still vote for him, with the rest not knowing.
So out of all Republicans, nearly half of them would either definitely or maybe vote for Trump if he has been convicted of a felony by a jury of his peers and was serving time in prison, after being afforded all of the due process to which he is entitled under our system of justice. In the context of a presidential election in the United States, I can only call that group of Republicans a cult.
