Wildflowers this morning around my house and up in the front meadow. Enjoy!
another L. elegans showing raindrops from overnight
Liatris gholsonii — along drive in front of Red Cedar. There are a couple buds that swelled and did not open due to the Liatris Gall fly -- I’ve removed 100s.
Liatris spicata — note the sessile buds and reddish margins on bracts
L. elegantula with slightly darker color and glassy margins on bracts
Monarda punctata — Spotted Beebalm. I’ve seen some wasps well over 1” — it’s an all-day joy for pollinators.
Pityopsis spp.- probably graminifolia. Ahh, to the left there is a Chrysopsis mariana - Golden Aster. 100s of them will bloom into late fall
Vernonia gigantea — Ironweed.
Helianthus microcephalus — one of the Woodland sunflowers with very small heads
Oenothera biennis — this is a huge multi-stemmed plant in veggie garden. Stems to 8’
and finally this Swallowtail — I think it is Spicebush but so faded and beat up.
Pipevine Swallowtail has less blue. The ventral view is a better indicator.
