Having just received two unsolicited fundraising texts from two different political campaigns over the course of fifteen minutes, I think it is appropriate to share my response to these unwanted texts.
I delete them unread, and while doing so I always select the option to block the phone number that they came from. What I never do is to read the messages; since I can tell what they are without opening them, it is not even necessary to open the messages before deleting them. Needless to say, I will never donate as much as a penny to any campaign based on receiving one of these annoying messages.
I’ve received as many as a half dozen of these useless messages over the course of a day, with the volume typically peaking out as the end of a quarter approaches. Since the end of September will mark the end of the current quarter, I know that the next 2 ½ weeks will be filled with these solicitations.
I know that I am not alone in resenting these fundraising texts. For any campaigns that are on DKos, I’m telling you upfront that you’re wasting time and resources on generating these texts that might instead go towards something productive. So please stop sending these damned things. I won’t read them. I won’t respond to them. And I most definitely won’t donate money in response. To the point, I’ll donate money to the campaigns of my choosing, at the times of my choosing, and will go through Act Blue when I’m ready to do so.
I’m sure that many other Kosians feel the same way. So to all the campaigns out there: find something more useful to do than annoying the Democratic base with these stupid texts.
