It was briefly noted by Digby of Hullabaloo and also observed here that August 2023 was absent the usual beltway political media barf charitably described as the silly season. The country wilts after months of heat, teevee is all reruns, anybody that can takes a long vacation and then a vapid malaise of laziness overtakes the American journalism corps with shark scares, fashion trends and cannabis dangers, useless stories of nothing that mercifully soon fade away.
2023 was different with the rapid succession of President Trump indictments that settled in August with hard fast news, but after 91 felony counts reported weeks ago the beltway silly season slipped over to September this year with all these ridiculous fretting stories about President Biden’s age and the status of the 2024 Democratic Party ticket.
What is going on here? Small elements of the Democratic Party don’t like or want President Biden to be the 2024 nominee for a variety of reasons and somehow think a cheesy anonymous quote to the Washington Post will make a change.
My god, how utterly futile. The Democratic Party remembers with frequent nightmares what Ralph Nader and Bernie Sanders did to our nominees this century and with President Trump and the Republican Party gone berserk with their American flavor of fascism only a handful of clueless wanderers think a 2024 nominee fight is a good idea.
President Biden and Vice President Harris are the Democratic Party nominees for the 2024 ticket. That is so irrefutable, there is no story here of any possible change.
Furthermore, the reporting on today’s installment of delayed beltway silly season vomit resides entirely on polling and anonymous quotes. What trash sources for an alleged attempt at the truth, Jesus, any editor of any respect should have instantly rejected the useless, wobbly foundation of facts and quotes of no value. Get some harder information next time, Jason Robards said with his red pen, I guess they haven’t seen the movie.
Of course silly season couldn’t inject an infuriating failure of the truth and an amazing obliviousness to the allegedly intelligent souls who wrote it.
While Trump is also at an advanced age and regularly makes his own erratic comments, polls show that voters are less concerned about his stamina and acuity, whether because of his brash personality or because his legal problems eclipse other concerns.
Polls show this because the beltway media just decided to ignore President Trump’s vapid, incoherent rambling word salad lying. They endlessly repackage grossly offensive and troubling President Trump ramblings into coherent intellectual positions where none obviously existed. As a little person Democrat it’s just beyond bewildering and aggravating, President Trump cant’ speak in coherent sentences but the story is President Biden’s age.
Way to go, beltway media, your pursuit and capture of the truth is so immense, so gratifying, so much a deliverance of righteousness for us all, yes.
If there were any premise to the idea advanced age could cripple the American presidency do we have any relevant history here? Why yes there is, the Republicans did it in 1984 with Ronald Reagan, by 1986 by many reputable accounts the man was just plain incapacitated for the Presidency by Alzheimer’s.
Of course President Reagan was a Republican, so the beltway media simply ignored it. That liberal media.
A political choice was made to keep this hidden and not cede the Presidency to the Vice President. If President Biden were for any reason to become incapacitated, would he resign so the country had a healthy President? That’s an extremely good question and decent story, if I were reading real journalism this morning instead of the Washington Post we might get some useful answers.
Finally, for the sake of minimal maturity and truth here’s a message for the Beltway media: President Biden has done a very good, responsible job as President. My god, do you think as a little person in California I have any influence at all in how my nominee is chosen? You hope for the best and help any way you can, I don’t live in a fantasy world of political choice characteristics for my nominee.
Which means I and 95% of my Party fully support my President for the 2024 nominee. It is a total fact that will not change, if there’s any story here at all that’s it, Washington Post, I’m weary and sorry to see the beltway August silly season trash political reporting spill into September this year.
