Part of one of the most alarming and amazing political spectacles we will ever witness continued yesterday as the Senate Majority Leader desperately moved forward on the nomination of Charles Q. Brown Jr. as Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff. A ridiculous Senator from Alabama, Tuberville, had gleefully trounced a heretofore cherished Republican principle in supporting the military by holding up his nomination.
What we are seeing is the Republican Party abandoning yet again one of their core guiding principles in supporting the military, there should have been a discipline or principle mechanism to stop Tuberville from hurting the military but the Republican Party couldn’t do it.
Add to the list abandonment of alleged family values, acceptance of Trump smashed that one. Tax cuts obliterated any notion of fiscal restraint or responsibility. Freedom became just another white man’s joke with Dobbs and abortion restrictions. The sanctity of life died in pandemic politics. Law and order degraded into nothing but a laugh after what their stooges on the Supreme Court have done. What does the Republican Party have left as any guiding principle?
Cheating with State gerrymandering, it seems to be the only one left. If all the blaring negativity in abandonment of principle is not evidence enough of advancing regression consider what Republicans offer for the future: nothing. They invest in nothing but a bloated military, they have no vision or action for the climate crisis, inequality in all its forms, hunger, public education, infrastructure, nothing but denial and distraction with a seriously disgusting punch-down of the LGBT community.
It’s as if the Democratic Party heaved union support, environmentalism, minority inclusion and supporting public education, oh well! We’ve got elections to win and this will do it.
How have the Republicans degraded so flagrantly in plain sight and have it not an accepted fact of American political discourse? The first reason is a widely noted and terribly insidious element of fascist conversion, it creeps on you. It took a long time for the Republicans to degrade in small steps in different political environments, wherever the tipping point to their American flavor of fascism happened it most certainly has occurred. At some point in perception and reality it all finally clicks in, often too late.
The second element of creeping fascism conversion is the infuriating, grossly obtuse American journalism corps who refuse to see it and report it, they slavishly adhere to their both sides mental framework for the two American political parties, if the Republicans trounce principle and law then by god the Democrats do too, the truth is twisted into a pretzel that’s hard to discern and see.
This obfuscation is right there in the lead paragraph of the Washington Post reporting on the Tuberville regression, god it’s just amazing to see it but yet again the fools at the Post somehow cannot adhere to their mission of truth so it will happen here.
Somehow a stupid preening freshman Senator from Alabama has the real procedural power to stop or alter Senate rules for confirming military nominations, that is the very beginning of truth here the Post just ignores and never explains.
That’s the truth of what Tuberville has done, he froze military nominations with a fatuous, unworkable solution of individual votes which naturally created an unworkable crisis that even evil turtle Mitch McConnel couldn’t stop. Tuberville has unforgivably weakened the military and smashed another allegedly sacrosanct bedrock Republican Party principle, but here’s the lead in the shining journalism flagship Washington Post.
“...Democrats briefly relenting in their ongoing feud with Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) to push through President Biden’s nominee for the military’s top job.”
There is no feud here whatsoever of squabbling both sides, Tuberville did this in a way never explained, my god what a horribly distorted smash miss of the truth. Schumer finally relented on individual votes to desperately get the very top nominations filled but the issue and crisis is still there unresolved, the Senate could do nothing else for months with individual nomination votes.
Almost as disgusting as the hidden truth is the pathetic Republican leadership that allowed this to happen, there easily should have been a way to shame or stop Tuberville but they couldn’t.
The tiny incremental steps in multi-arrayed environments to the creep of fascism is difficult enough to comprehend, but when it’s actively hidden by The Washington Post with a mission to deliver and guard the truth the likelihood of complete US government takeover becomes so much fearfully greater.
