When Trump came into office we were in a series of ongoing battles with ISIS in Iraq and Syria. ISIS had been driven out of a dozen cities in Iraq and they were down to just one town left. Ultimately, they were pushed out of that town during Trump's term - which he took HUGE credit for - but mostly the job was done.
In fact, it was in October 2017 that combined US and Iraqi forces launched their final assault on the last ISIS-held city in Iraq.
Iraq’s government and the Iraqi forces, with the support of the global coalition, have liberated more than 4.4 million Iraqis and reclaimed over 47,769 square kilometers, approximately 95 percent of land once held by ISIS. Much work remains to consolidate gains as operations continue to destroy ISIS’ remaining capabilities, task force officials said.
Trump had only been in office for 10 months.
There was already a Civil War in Syria going on, where US Troops came up against Russian Wagner Forces. This war created a massive refugee crisis displacing 14 million people which became a huge immigration issue in Europe. Trump made a big deal of implementing a bombing against Syria's Assad because of the use of chemical weapons, but he never followed up on that. Following that as the battle continued into Syria, Trump betrayed and abandoned our allies the Kurds who had been fighting with us side by side to be decimated by Turkey who had problems with them, and pulled our troops out of Syria without finishing the job against Assad.
Without being at War or any authorization from Congress, Trump had a major general from Iran killed - which itself was a War Crime.
When we lost several troops in Niger, Trump told the wife of one of our fallen soldiers that he “knew what he was getting into" - then lied about it to the public. Ultimately, it turned out that John Kelly had suggested he say that - but when a US Congressperson who was in the Limo during Trump's call revealed the truth Kelly wrongfully *attacked* and slandered her as being a big "empty barrel” without any substance - which was based on a lie and was proven with video.
When Trump was asked to honor our fallen Troops from WWI in France he refused to go blaming the rain, but later he reportedly told John Kelly that those troops who had died were "Losers" and "suckers" for dying for their country. That's the kind of respect he gave our military.
Gen Mark Milley besides his recent report that Trump complained about a wounded soldier singing "God Bless America", has also stated that Trump tried multiple times to unleash the U.S. Military against the American people who were protesting in 2019-2020. He reportedly told Milley that he wanted US Troops to "crack their skulls" and "shoot them in the legs" despite the fact that it's illegal for the Military to be used for law enforcement purposes against American Citizens. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper also wrote about this in his book.
Ukraine was already at war with Russia who had invaded and annexed Crimea in 2014. Trump repeatedly suggested and attempted to drop sanctions on Russia even though they had done nothing to remove themselves from Crimea. Further, he held back Congressionally approved military aid to Ukraine in exchange for them to create a fake investigation of Joe Biden for removing a corrupt prosecutor in 2019. This got him impeached that year.
Lastly, WE were still at war with Afghanistan. And as badly as the ultimately pull out from that country went, that was the result of TRUMP SURRENDERING TO THE TALIBAN where he negotiated with them in Dohar without involving the Afghan government.
The Afghan government was our creation and only existed due to our support, when Trump left them hanging like that they fell apart like a wet hand rag. And part of the reason we had so many Afghani translators who had worked with our troops still in the country when we pulled our forces out is because Trump had *banned Muslims* from Afghanistan from entering the U.S. That included those translators who were left behind.
It's not true that Trump didn't have "A War" - he had several. He betrayed the Kurds, he betrayed Ukraine, he betrayed Qatar - who were also are ally - he sucked up to Russia and he surrender to the Taliban. The only war he "Won" - against ISIS - was already mostly fought and won by the previous administration. If anything he does deserve credit for not fucking that up, but if he had had more time - he would have.
Prove me wrong.
