Just saw Andrea Mitchell interviewing Debbie Dingell (on MSNBC) about President Biden’s visit to MI, visiting the picket line and supporting strikers.
Mitchell is always so focused on the horserace, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone that she kept asking about polling and about the UAW’s potential endorsement.
Debbie Dingell was GREAT! She bluntly told Mitchell that this was about workers getting what’s fair, and supporting the strikers on the picket line, NOT about politics or endorsements. She was clear that, of course, politics plays a part in things like getting politicians to support a strike, but it’s not the focus of this. She also bluntly told Mitchell not to ask her about polling — she has no interest in it.
As a part of that, Dingell said that in 2015/2016 she warned national Dems that Trump could win MI, but the national Dems kept telling her, “that’s not what the polling is telling us”. Her point, obviously, was that polling doesn’t always tell you what’s happening on the ground.
Now, seeing Biden talking to the strikers — “you saved the automobile industry” and “you deserve to be doing better, too!”
