I am so beyond sick of seeing articles and news reports in our imbecilic political media placing the blame for the immigration crisis we face on President Joe Biden — again, by omission, absolving the truly evil Republicans of their role creating this crisis. Given the decrepit state of our elitist corporate media I wish I were surprised, however it’s absolutely infuriating to see them fed by quotes from numerous apparently moronic Democrats like New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin and Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey.
Everyone, repeat after me: Republicans have relentlessly blocked commonsense immigration reform every chance they’ve had, for decades. Because they are racist extremists who put party over country every time. This — not Biden — is the cause of the current crisis.
Was that so hard? Why does the media continue to pretend they don’t know this & deprive the American people of this critical context in every single article about the matter? And why TF are some Democrats going around complaining about Biden instead of training their fire where it rightly belongs — at the uncompromising, immoral QOP? If anything, Biden deserves immense credit for his leadership addressing the crisis through executive action.
Case in point a new article from Axios entitled, “Blue state migrant crisis sparks political disaster for Biden”. Just unreal, not a single mention of Republicans’ role in all this:
- Business leaders and lawmakers at various levels of government are demanding the administration do more to help accommodate migrants — and are frustrated by what they say is Biden's lack of response.
- It's unclear why there hasn't been stronger action by the Biden administration, Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) tells Axios. "I wrote to him in May so it's been like four months, but I hope to find out."
Every single article containing a complaint about President Biden’s “handling” of the issue should include the facts upfront that it is REPUBLICANS who are solely responsible for all the dysfunction in our immigration system today. Another example of Dems getting blamed for not fixing Republican-caused crises more quickly! Just off the top of my head:
- John Boehner never brought up the overwhelmingly bipartisan Senate-passed immigration reform for a vote in the House in 2013.
- Chuck Grassley has continued to block the highly bipartisan/non-partisan Afghan Adjustment Act for 2 years on bogus security concerns. The bill is even backed by Sen. Lindsey Graham, so it’s no liberal wishlist.
- Senate QOP earlier this year shot down a compromise from Kyrsten Sinema & Thom Tillis that, if anything, was further to the right than it needed to be but was at least a path forward.
The remaining Democrats who don’t seem to “get” the stakes of historic moment or we’re currently living in need to focus on calling out the QOP about why they continue to block comprehensive immigration reform that this country so desperately needs — not aid and abet the media’s smug & ludicrous attacks against President Biden.
The Biden-Harris administration constantly points out to the numbskull media that congressional action is needed to fix the immigration crisis, but of course the media is unable to process this truth/reality when it’s so much easier for them to continue blaming Democrats. We can’t count on the media to do better on their own, so Durbin, Adams, Hochul, et al. need to get a clue & step up to meet the moment. No more circular firing squad, please!
P.S. Shoutout to Daily Kos for the continued, vitally important emphasis on media criticism in their news coverage. Continuing the legacy of the great Eric Boehlert, whose final article “Why is the press rooting against Biden?” sadly still rings true today.
