Tommy Tuberville told Larry Kudlow that the Russo-Ukraine war was America’s fault. In a rambling answer to Kudlow’s question, “What’s your thinking about the Ukraine funding, sir,” he said,
”We pretty much kicked this can down the road, and got Ukraine into this mess.”
If you wonder what he meant by “kicked the can down the road”, I cannot help you. Tuberville did not offer any details. In addition, it is not his first explanation for the war in Ukraine. Before the conflict began on Feb 24, 2022, he explained why Putin threatened a sovereign state.
“He can’t feed his people. It’s a communist country, so he can’t feed his people, so they need more farmland.”
Tuberville has little idea what the American Constitution says and is fuzzy on why America fights wars. Sadly, his knowledge of current foreign affairs falls short of that standard. Russia has not been a communist country since 1993. And it is a net exporter of wheat.
Even that was not his first position on causes. In the same month, as Russia was massing troops on the Ukrainian border, he offered this:
“Putin's goal is to deter Ukraine from joining NATO. He wants the pro-democracy government to collapse, Ukrainians to abandon their results, [and to take over the country that largely despises him.”
He was correct (a broken clock is right twice a day?). But he has abandoned reality and joined his fellow DC MAGAs who oppose American support of Ukraine — not because of some rational cost-benefit analysis — but only because Biden is for it.
Tuberville had more to say to Kudlow. He started with a lie and a slur.
“We heard about a year and a half ago from President Biden, or Pinocchio Joe, whatever you wanna call him, that it was going to be a small incursion.”
Biden did not say that Russia would launch a small incursion into Ukraine. He did speculate that the allies would be hard-pressed to agree on what to do if the invasion was a “minor incursion.” Biden’s exact words were:
"I think what you're going to see is that Russia will be held accountable if it invades. And it depends on what it does. It's one thing if it's a minor incursion and then we end up having a fight about what to do and not do."
Putin’s ‘special military operation’ was an all-out invasion. And at least tens of thousands of soldiers and civilians have been killed. Tuberville gets that right — but then he lies again. This time about the ‘mainstream media.’
“And we all know now that there's been hundreds of thousands of people killed, over in Ukraine both Russian and Ukrainians. But the Ukrainians are getting slaughtered. We hear every day from the mainstream media that that’s not happening.”
Coverage of the war has diminished — Tuberville can thank his RICO crime-lord leader for sucking up all the media oxygen — but is a reputable news organization denying the casualties? Perhaps the sources that Tuberville relies on for his ignorance are saying so. Tuberville adds,
“They’re going to ask for more money. I don't know what they're going to spend it on, because we don't have anything for them to buy. We don't have anything to send. You even heard that from the President of the United States. That we are out of equipment. We're out of munitions. So what are we gonna do?”
The US does give Ukraine money. But it does not send them cash to buy US weapons. It gives them money for economic support, disaster relief, and refugee assistance. When it comes to military supplies, the US simply sends it to Ukraine. If we arrive at a point where low stocks of a particular weapons system threaten our national security, the Pentagon will turn off that tap. At no point, as Tuberville seems to suggest, do the Ukrainians pocket dollars.
Like many idiots, Tuberville thinks he is smart (Dunning-Kruger). Despite having never served in the military — and lacking any education or experience in military affairs — Tommy 'knew' what was going to happen in Ukraine six months before the Russian invasion.
“I was there six months before this war started. — this wasn't going to end up well for Ukraine.”
Finally, Tuberville executed his dismount and crashed into the mat.
“We pretty much kicked this can down the road, and got Ukraine into this mess. We can't get them out. Somebody needs to go to Russia, like Joe Biden. And talk them out of what's going on. And get this thing settled before we get into a World War. That's what worries me, Larry.”
We already know that Tubberville’s grasp of WWII history is shaky. Perhaps he forgets when Chamberlain went to Germany to talk to Hitler and returned boasting of, “Peace for our Time.” Someone should explain to Coach how that worked out.
