Welcome to the Street Prophets Coffee Hour, the place where politics meets up with religion, science, nature, art, and life. Come in, have a cuppa and a cookie (or three!) and join us.
Helping Humpday is the Wednesday Street Prophets Coffee Hour. It was created for us by bfitzinAR and was taken over by Dixiecollie, who also left suddenly. Now it’s njm5000 who keeps the list of Kossacks in need. Helping Humpday is still here, the place where we can show caring and offer help.
We didn’t have a Village diary this morning, but njm5000 still compiled our list of community members needing a little assistance. Reminding everyone that if you need help, please ask sooner rather than later. There may be a person or two who is reluctant to ask until the situation is desperate. That impacts how quickly the Kossack community can react, and sometimes it isn’t fast enough. I know it’s difficult. It would be for me, too. But life happens to all of us, and there have been times in my life when I was desperate for a bit of assistance, and there was no DK to turn to. If you are in need, speak up. You can Kosmail me if you have questions about being on the list. I check in less frequently than in times past, partly because of my iffy internet connection (new mini Wi-Fi on order but won’t be here until the end of January) and partly because life happens away from the computer, but I am here several times a day and through the night.
Thanks to njm5000, here’s the Community Needs List:
Community Needs List as of 1/10/24.

A Bleeding God—needs some help as a result of a moving company scam. Diary:
I was scammed and lost everything, don't let it happen to you. $5,000 2,487 1,947 1872 1622 1382 is needed to begin to set up the family’s new household. GFM donation link. PayPal: @Karhma or the email for it is Kdent1at comcast dot net.
CentristandProud—Needs to pay a deductible prior to an upcoming surgery for their partner. Another medical patient requires help (update at the end of the diary includes a couple needlepoint projects. :-) Long story short, this surgery is needed towards having any quality of life. From the diarist: “Covering this deductible, to us, means we can save our monies for the multiple, not covered, co-pays and visits and extra tests that their “all-inclusive” prices fail to mention. This is her life. I refuse to put a price tag on it. Help if ye can. We understand if you cannot. Life is not easy these days.” gofund.me/…
$8,000 6,860 6,575 6,540 6290 4290 4280 4270 4250. The out of network costs are ongoing. • Some $ has been put aside towards the surgery co–pay, but more is needed. • In the meantime, traveling three counties away for appointments is very costly.
anotherdemocrat—has a diary up: Anyone know where I can find a 2nd job? She’s in Austin and is suddenly $24000 in debt, mainly due to an HOA assessment! From the diary: “So, $24,000 is more money than I can ask even a big community like Daily Kos to donate. I have a venmo: at Becky-Helton, Cashapp: $B3ckyHelt0n, and GoFundMe, if anyone wants to help with next month’s payments but for a big total like that, I need a 2nd job. My day job is M-F from 8-5, so it would have to be evenings & weekends.” and “Skills: writing, 20+ years of customer service work, super reliable…” Kosmail, if you can help.
AZnaturegrrrl—has an ongoing need for dry and canned kitteh food for her numerous rescue kittehs. From AZ: “A $25/30 Chewy voucher (sent to naturegirl61 at icloud dot com) will buy one bag and I will need around 4 bags to get me through the month…” *Chewy gift cards to naturegirl61 at icloud dot com •amazon wish list is www.amazon.com/…
Rule of Claw is supporting his disabled family members while also disabled himself. He's having some health issues currently and the income from his newsletter isn't adequate to cover everything the family needs. He'd like to expand subscriptions to his Patreon page, The Claw News. He needs a break from DK for personal reasons but you can find him there.

Kos Katalogue 2023 final version for this year. Holidays are still coming and great gifts can be found here for any occasion.
When sending via PayPal, be sure to select “Send to family/friend” to avoid fees on either end. Be aware, both donor and recipient, that GFM not only charges fees to recipients and asks donors to contribute to their organization, but also money received through that platform is treated as taxable income and reported to the IRS. The recipient will receive a form 1099. It will be up to the recipient how to handle that, even if it is considered a gift. If you are requesting help through GFM, also be aware that there can be delays in accessing the money. There has been some confusion about GFM fees. When you donate, they ask for a tip. You can decline and have no extra charge. This is not the same as the fees charged to the person raising funds; it goes directly to GFM’s profit. GFM will still take money from the amount raised, and it isn’t voluntary.
If helping financially isn’t the right choice for you at this time, you can still help. Tip and rec the diary so it stays visible. Share on social media: Twitter, Facebook, whatever platform you use, to bring the attention of others outside our daily readers. And offer words of encouragement to people who are struggling. It can be scary to be struggling, and it can feel lonely. This can happen to any of us. Today it isn’t me in need. If it isn’t you, either, please see what you can do to help.
