The LeMay—America’s Car Museum in Tacoma, Washington includes several elegant luxury cars from the 1910s.
1916 Pierce Arrow, 38-C Series 4 Brougham Limousine
Pierce-Arrow was the American equivalent of the British Rolls-Royce. This car has a 6-cylinder, 415 cubic inch, 38 horsepower engine with a 4-speed manual transmission.
In his book The American Automobile: A Centenary 1893-1993, Nick Georgano writes:
“Pierce-Arrows were among the highest-quality American cars, and were much favored by conservative East Coast buyers who wanted the best without ostentation.”
1917 Crane Simplex, Model 5 Brewster Body, 7-Passenger Touring
According to the Museum:
“The car was ordered by John D. Rockefeller Jr. as a birthday gift for his father, John D. Rockefeller Sr.’s 78th birthday. This is one of two Rockefeller Crane Simplexes to survive.”
This car has a 6-cylinder, 564 cubic inch, 46 horsepower engine with a 4-speed manual transmission.
