if you are alive and with access to the internet — you may have noticed that climate change ain’t what it used to be.
We are in a mass extinction event. We may be headed towards acknowledging this fact , though our recognition of it has no impact in the unfolding.
Sorry quantum fans — but observing the extinction may have an effect of changing it in some way — whatever that way is, does not bode well for you.
In any event — an easy rule of thumb to measure just how bad a situation is, is to see how much legacy media is acknowledging and publishing what you know to be true, but skeptics warn that because of : public “panic” or loss of faith or _____ must be avoided, therefore the news is watered down.
The great dose of Valium to coverage is the “ UNLESS” clause which implies we have time
So, mirror mirror on the wall what outlets are gonna say it all?
1. Keep the great white hope ALIVE
https://climate.mit.edu/ask-mit/will-climate-change-drive-humans-extinct-or-destroy-civilization
For many people, asking if climate change is the “end of the world” may be a way of asking if it’s the end of their world—if they should be taking steps to cope with widespread breakdowns in infrastructure or public services or the food supply. “And it depends upon where you live,” says Schlosser. “I would give a very different answer if you were living in the Northeast United States as opposed to an island nation or the coastal plains of Bangladesh or in the middle of the Sahel.”
Don’t freak out — you have stuff, nice stuff, this is proof god loves you more. If others suffer more than you it is proof of your chosen ness
And after all MIT should be able to deliver an above ivy league cover up…. so they do
First, the good news: climate scientists, as a whole, are not warning us to prepare for the apocalypse. The most recent report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)—a group of hundreds of scientists working with the United Nations to analyze climate change research from around the world—names many serious risks brought on by the warming of our planet, but human extinction is not among them.1
2. Yes mate — it’s over.
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/dec/29/world-will-look-back-at-2023-as-year-humanity-exposed-its-inability-to-tackle-climate-crisis
World will look back at 2023 as year humanity exposed its inability to tackle climate crisis, scientists say
and here comes the relief pitcher full of hope
In the years ahead, the heat “anomaly” and catastrophes of 2023 would first become the new norm, and then be looked back on as one of the cooler, more stable years in people’s lives. As Hansen warned, unless there is radical and rapid change, failure will be built into the climate system.
3. Calling Stanford … come in Stanford
https://news.stanford.edu/2023/09/18/human-driven-mass-extinction-eliminating-entire-genera/
To prevent further extinctions and resulting societal crises, Ceballos and Ehrlich are calling for immediate political, economic, and social action on unprecedented scales.
Men of action “calling for” ………….. Ok I called out for the winning lottery ticket at the store — I demanded it — those assholes just don’t listen, I lost.
Give credit where credit is due — they skipped the “unless” and just highlight the theoretically impossible
4. Stephen Forbes that hold on to old wealth will let reporters say it
https://www.forbes.com/sites/grrlscientist/2023/07/19/modern-sixth-mass-extinction-event-will-be-worse-than-first-predicted/?sh=12ac5e4c4ab6
It cannot be denied that human activities are the sole cause of this extinction event, which is driven by our unsustainable use of land, water and energy, which also are driving runaway climate change. Currently, 40% of all land on Earth has been altered specifically for food production to support the growing human population. Agriculture alone is responsible for 90% of global deforestation and 70% of the planet’s freshwater consumption, thereby pushing species that inhabit those habitats towards extinction.

the world is heading for a temperature rise far above the Paris Agreement goals unless countries deliver more than they have promised.

American exceptionalism
Americans reject that humans are major contributors to climate change or say addressing the issue is not too important for the country. Even smaller shares take the most skeptical views and say the Earth is not warming at all and that no action should be taken.
I would like to note — To all the KOS admins, writers and commenters:
You repeatedly claim that calling out extinction will stop people from taking action.
News flash — you already know that the watered down presentation of information to encourage hope is going to be erased in media, so why isn’t disinformation the problem? Easier to create a “doomer” mythology and attack that
