This is just disturbing:
More than 26,000 Texans are estimated to have become pregnant as a result of a rape since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade in June 2022 — the highest number among the 14 states that enacted total abortion bans after the high court ended the federal right to terminate a pregnancy, according to a peer-reviewed study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Texas has one of the strictest, if not the strictest, abortion bans in the nation. This is the state that’s so bad that a woman whose fetus had a fatal diagnosis and could have jeopardized her life was denied an abortion by the Texas Supreme Court. In Abbott’s Texas, there are no exceptions.
Certainly not for rape victims. Under Texas law, rape survivors must carry their rapist’s babies to term. When Abbott was asked how the hell he could justify having no rape exception, he promised he would “eliminate rape” in the state of Texas.
Clearly, he’s forgotten about that pledge. His attorney general, Ken Paxton, is going after women who try to seek emergency abortions, and Abbott is too busy killing migrants. I feel for the women of Texas.
Fund Texas Choice: so rape victims can get safe, out-of-state legal abortions.
