The FL Surgeon General has invented another reason for people to be scared of lifesaving medicine — trace amounts of DNA in an RNA vaccine! Ladapo suggests that this is some new risk arising from RNA vaccines by citing FDA guidelines written 17 years ago for a different technology (DNA vaccines). It’s not clear that he understands the difference between DNA and RNA vaccines.
A full dissection of Ladapo’s nonsense has been written up by “Your Local Epidemiologist” (Edward Nirenberg and Kristen Panthagani).
Edit: For background, Ladapo was appointed by DeSantis. His appointment to this leadership position was controversial due to his eccentric approach to medicine and anti-vax agenda. Previously, he has pushed FL Department of Health to publish a weak study about COVID vaccine side effects, which he then used to issue an advisory against those vaccines, in opposition to much stronger evidence.
