South Africa has filed an excellent, well cited, and legally sound argument accusing Israel of war crimes before the International Court of Justice.
The DailyKos community is primarily focused on the ongoing campaign, supporting democrats, so who cares about the South African Application?
Anyone who wants a Trump loss must help/demand the democrats find the correct/moral footing in Gaza and the Westbank. Voters today are able to learn more, faster, and in far more graphic terms, than any other time. Compounded with the media’s motto — “if it bleeds, it leads” Americans, despite their point of view, are increasingly seeing the carnage in Gaza. The world, and soon many Americans, will understand and embrace what South Africa’s Application so clearly outlines. Even if the New York Times has failed to report the Application to this esteemed court there is no hiding, or whitewashing, what will soon become accepted as historically accurate.
Biden’s loss of support, in recent months, has already been reported. This trend has only accelerated. Voters are not happy with America and Biden supporting Israel’s actions. The dumb-bombs which are killing innocent women and children, soon to be over 30,000, were paid for and made in America. While many of our likeminded citizens will never vote for Trump, they will stay home and not vote for Biden if he doesn’t demand a new course of action in Gaza. Instinctively, we agree with Niemöller's warning. No, they will not vote for Trump, they will simply stay home. This must be our concern. If someone is horrified by what is happening in Gaza, they will not hold their nose and pull the lever. They will simply not vote. This will cost us in both the executive and Congress.
If we want victory, for both the Congress and the executive, we must pressure Biden to not remain on the sidelines. He must be strident. As the election comes to a head, Netanyahu will again come to America, be gladly welcomed again by the Republican members of Congress, and put his full weight behind Trump during a joint session. We must be there to support Biden and the Democrats when Netanyahu pumps his fists for Trump. If you look at Netanyahu's politics, they line up perfectly with only one candidate. That is who he will get behind. If Netanyahu doubts our side's resolve, he will exploit it. If he knows we stand behind Biden's demands for a ceasefire, end to genocide, end to forced emigration, end to apartheid, Netanyahu will know that his attack will only energize us to fight for Biden — not to dare stay home. If we remain silent, and don't demand more from Biden, Netanyahu will feel rather comfortable choosing who he thinks is the winner — Trump. If he sees our resolve, our backing of our president’s demands, Netanyahu will be forced to stay home.
In the decades to come people will ask where we stood. A version of “did you get on the bus?” My fellow Jews, Americans, all of us, must be able to say we stood against what the South Africans have so compellingly outlined as happening. Biden should be pressured to scream this from the mountain tops, and we need to signal, in no small way, that we will have his back. We cannot give anyone an excuse to stay home.
