Researchers from universities in Lyon, France, and Québec, Canada have published initial results after analyzing COVID hospitalization data across six countries: France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Turkey and the U.S. The study concluded that exposure to the anti-malaria drug touted by Trump as a “Miracle Drug” had a lethal impact on thousands of patients:
Nearly 17,000 people may have died after taking hydroxycholoroquine during the first wave of Covid-19, according to a study by French researchers.
The anti-malaria drug was prescribed to some patients hospitalized with Covid-19 during the first wave of the pandemic, "despite the absence of evidence documenting its clinical benefits," the researchers point out in their paper, published in the February issue of Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy.
The researchers cautioned that the death toll was most likely much higher, since the study analyzed hospitalization data through July 2020. Trump, DeSantis and a number of other anti-vaxxer charlatans continued to push Hydroxychloroquine long after that.
Americans seem to have forgotten that Trump presided over the gravest public health disaster in a century, with over 1 million deaths in the United States — many of them needless. I hope the Biden Campaign hammers Trump on the tragedy we all went through in 2020-2021.
