Washington Post commentator Jennifer Rubin talks about a a major policy change that I have not seen covered here, at least not in the depth that she covers it.
“U.S. President Joe Biden issued a memorandum on Thursday requiring allies who receive military aid from the U.S. to provide ‘credible and reliable written assurances’ of their adherence to international law including international human rights law,” the Times of Israel reported.
She states that part of the genius of Biden’s move is that it does not apply a double standard to Israel as opposed to other US allies while meeting progressives’ demands for Israeli accountability. This should make it a lot easier to convince those unhappy with Biden’s Israeli/Gaza policy that they are way better off with Biden than Trump.
On a personal note, this has long been my biggest beef with Biden policy wise. I actually popped off a message to the White House stating that I could not in good conscience send his campaign more money until I saw some steps to reign in Israeli attacks against the Palestinian people. Now I can.
I suggest reading the whole piece. It’s not long. I loved seeing the Jewish pro-Israel pundit take a swipe at AIPAC for their extremism and point out how unrepresentative they are of the Jewish-American mainstream.
