Welcome to Street Prophets Sunday Coffee Hour. This is an open topic thread so grab some refreshments and sit a spell and let us know what is new with you. I was going to write about Steampunk this week but came down with the cold from hell and couldn't finish the great reference book I was reading. It is hard to read while sneezing your head off and wiping dripping eyes. So instead this week Princess Pixie decided Mommy should tell everyone about how great black cats are.
I am 75 and have had cats all my life. Most of my cats have been tabbies with all white Casper being the exception. Pixie is my first black cat. I am a member of the Black Cats Appreciation group on Facebook.
Black cats are among the last cats to get adopted. Even in this day and age people are still prejudiced against them. They are supposed to be difficult personalities. They are supposed to be difficult to photograph. Around Halloween you have to be careful to keep them in because their are some very sick people out there who will harm them.
This is my experience with my black cat Pixie. She is a Mama's girl. If you look up Mama's girl in the dictionary it will have her picture and if it doesn't it should. She is timid. She misjudged a jump onto the bed a couple of months ago and now refuses to try to get up on the bed herself. I have to pick her up and put her on the bed.
Pixie is the most vocal cat I've ever had. I'm not always sure what she is saying? When storms are coming in I get her complaints since my arthritis goes into overdrive. My remaining two brothers and I speculate on what she is saying at other times. Currently we think she may have all of the unified field theory figured out. Oh and she is finishing that unfinished symphony.
Pixie's cat mom was young and naive and daddy was a fence jumper. She was born in the storage shed of my parent's house. Mother cat took off as soon as they were weaned. Pixie is smart. She took one look at Mom and went "sucker" and moved into the house. She added six years to my Mom's life.
Being a life long cat owner I understand how manipulative they can be. I have a studio apartment and need to go through the kitchen to get to the bathroom. Of course that means I have to pass the food and water dishes which Miss Pix makes sure that they are full before I enter the bathroom.
Black cats are affectionate. Pixie will grab my hand and keeps grabbing it until I rub her head to her satisfaction. To be fair she will also lay next to me and purr. She is a great companion.
So that's black cats. They are beautiful, smart, affectionate and will steal your hearts. I don't know if I would have been able to get through the loss of my brother Reid without her.
