I’ve noticed a pattern here in North Carolina among the ads for all the GOP candidates running for the various Congressional Districts. The pattern isn’t that most of them haven’t even identified the Congressional District they’re running in. The common pattern is, they all want to keep President Biden in check.
The first dozen or so times I saw them, the implication just went right by me because I wasn’t paying much attention once it was clear they were running in a Congressional GOP primary. I often mute them. But among those times I couldn’t or didn’t mute them, a common theme broke through, Biden. Biden this. Biden that. I’m going to impeach Biden. I’m going to Washington to keep Biden in check. Etc. etc. etc.
There’s a huge unstated acknowledgement in these ads. The acknowledgment is that Biden will be re-elected as President. Nowhere do they state that they want to go to Washington to help TFG or any other potential GOP President. Nope, it’s all about keeping Biden in check.
You may ask why I’m not naming names? One can’t search for any mention of their name, if their name isn’t used. And the last thing I want is for them to pull these ads. (NC Primary is March 5th.) They are creating a huge subliminal message among GOP voters that I wouldn’t mind them continuing. That message being, that TFG, or any other GOP candidate for President, won’t be elected in 2024.
One quick add-on;
After having already started writing this I saw one ad by one of the candidates that mentioned TFG. It was a quick flash of images and then it went back to attacking Biden.
Other observations
We have a guy who’s running in the GOP gubernatorial primary that’s confused about which office he’s running. He says he wants to be governor, but everything he says he wants to do as governor, falls under the responsibility of the Attorney General. In North Carolina, the Office of the Attorney General is an elected office, and is independent of the governor.
This same guy seems to have some sort of fixation with China. He blames China for mills closings in North Carolina that were closed after the parent companies merged with larger American companies decades ago. He blames China for polluting some of our rivers and streams. Again from decades ago. He also seems to be confusing a Vietnamese company (there’s a Vietnamese EV car manufacturer building a facility just southwest of Raleigh) with being Chinese. He wants to keep China in check.
Among all of these ads there’s another theme, or rather a lack of a theme. There’s nothing positive they want to do for North Carolina. It’s all grievance. They want to get even with somebody. This implication being, that if you elect them, they get even with somebody for you. Who, you may ask? Who the hell knows, and neither do they.
