“Dr. Jerome Adams, who was the nation's top doctor from 2017 to 2021, said he was slammed with an almost $5,000 bill after being treated for dehydration at a Mayo Clinic emergency department [in Scottsdale, AZ], where he got lab [tests] and a few IV bags.”
Dr. Adams, enrolled in a high-deductible health plan ($7,500), hasn’t received a breakdown of the charges, making contesting the bill "mentally taxing."
He concluded his experience reflects what all Americans go through: exorbitant medical care costs and no price transparency.
