Wow, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer — the highest-ranking Jewish official in U.S. history — has officially “gone there” and explicitly called for new elections in Israel to replace disgusting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In a speech on the Senate floor today, he absolutely unloaded on Bibi:
“He has put himself in coalition with far-right extremists like Ministers [Bezalel] Smotrich and [Itamar] Ben-Gvir, and as a result, he has been too willing to tolerate the civilian toll in Gaza, which is pushing support for Israel worldwide to historic lows,” Schumer said, referencing two of Netanyahu’s radical cabinet ministers who have called for permanently pushing Palestinians out of Gaza. “Israel cannot survive if it becomes a pariah.”
We do seem to be at a turning point for President Biden and Democrats, one which has been a very long time coming. No one can say they didn’t bend over backward for months to accommodate Israel, despite Bibi and his lunatic right-wing coalition spitting in their faces every step of the way. As painful as it has been seeing the unacceptable suffering in Gaza, the Biden-Harris Administration can now credibly explain how they had no other choice but to push Bibi out of power by any means necessary — even if that means publicly interfering in Israel’s politics. I couldn’t be happier to see this unprecedented development, the people of Gaza and Israel deserve a chance at peace.
I have to say I'm pretty shocked, incredibly refreshed and heartened at how bold Leader Schumer was in his remarks condemning Bibi and his government. I didn’t expect such explicit demands for a government change in Israel, certainly not at this point in time. Schumer is remarkably courageous for doing this, and the QOP are already condemning his remarks like the a*****es they are. I hope any “uncommitted” voter will take note of that before voting against Biden over Gaza, and realize that the alternative is Trump & the QOP who will never support Palestinian rights or statehood.
In any event, Trump-era Democrats continue to demonstrate just how many lessons they’ve learned over the past few years. They have transformed into savvy, ruthless political operators with strong moral values and clarity to lead our country through this frightening moment. On this issue, they are now concretely confirming (via Schumer) that they no longer see any future with Bibi, and I’m sure will act accordingly moving forward throughout the administration. It’s amazing and encouraging that we’ve reached this point — in large part due to pressure generated by grassroots activists.
THANK YOU, Leader Schumer for taking this forceful, public stance to help both Israelis and Palestinians reach lasting peace.
