The big excitement here on the front range was the snowstorm that started Wednesday of last week and finally ended some time after midnight on Friday morning. I went out around 3AM and there were no more snowflakes coming down, though I don’t know about afterwards. I didn’t get my driveway cleared until midday Saturday, and I was happy to have it done.
My neighbors were also stuck in. There were lots of stories of how the plow pickups and even the big machines were breaking plows, breaking things like automatic steering and other breakdowns. Unfortunately, the only spare parts for most of them were down in the valley, so there were also lots of stuck trucks. The weather folk finally got a prediction right — this was a big snowfall. I wound up with about three feet of snow. My neighbor a couple hundred yards away said he got a verified 41 inches of snow.
My nearest neighbor had problems with his flight to a wedding. They left Tuesday, so it wasn’t this storm that stopped him, but he and his wife had to change plans in Chicago and they decided to go to Cancun instead. They sent us pictures of their sandy toes on the chaise lounges on the beach, with umbrella drinks and beautiful Caribbean blue skies and water. They get home tomorrow. The temperature was in the 40’s today and it will be again tomorrow, so there is a lot of melting. Early Tuesday morning (2:30 AM), I will be headed to DIA for my own warm weather trip. Thailand, here I come!
Here is the schedule I have so far:
March 25th: John in Denver
April 1: RichM
April 8: greenchiledem
April 15: John in Denver (well, he said he could do 1 or 2, so I’m volunteering him for 2) Of course this is tax day.
April 22: TBD. Probably me, since I can at least post a little something, though it’s not likely to be current events. If anyone would like to volunteer, I’d be happy to let you...
I thank you for volunteering. I hope you have fun, and if you have any questions, you can ask me by KosMail. I think I’ll get to answering at some point, but being on the other side of the world, the time zone difference will be 13 hours (forward). Remember, the topics are up to you, the length is up to you, and the only rules are the overarching DailyKos Rules of the Road.
Frozen Dead Guy Days went ahead as (mostly) planned. The town only got about half the snow we did higher up (I’m about a thousand feet higher and a few miles closer to Rocky Mountain National Park). Once I was freed from my snowed in property, I only attended one event. I went to the historic theater and saw a showing of “Lisa Frankenstein” which was a new movie based on the Frankenstein story, but it was a humorous, teenage version. There were only three people in the theater. I think others were probably attending bands or the coffin races, but I had been looking forward to this movie. It was cute, but had too many large plot loopholes they either skipped or just didn’t think to deal with.
Once again, have fun while I will be galivanting around SE Asia. Until I get back, the floor is yours…
