It was because ycalif asked me if I’d seen jakedog (Carl Dominello) around that I started to send out asks… in the past, there would be long absences from the site for Carl, usually due to a Parrothead round-up of sorts. A greater Jimmy Buffet fan never lived. Carl used to say he’d graduated from the University of Margaritaville, in fact. We traveled together, along with susans and gmats to a northern DK round-up when offices first set up in Oakland. I had already been to see Lewis Black with him and susans in November of 2013. There is great photo of him from that trip that should be attached to the image dump diary I did shortly after the latter excursion. He’d just racked up a tidy win on a slot machine. That shot and several others should be here on the site but I fear they’ve been dumped. I no longer have a copy. I know it was one of his favorites of himself. If he wanted you to know something, he’d tell you more than once; I know he loved that image.
I was shocked to hear from his daughter, Amber, that he’d walked on, Friday, March 15th. We all knew he had kidney issues; they were supposedly resolved during a recent stretch in the hospital but GI misfortune and sepsis ensued. I’m blown away.
Amber has mentioned that there will be a celebration of his life on May 18th...stay tuned for venue info at a later point in time.
If you have stories to tell, or even better — some photos of the ever affable fellow that was/is jakedog42, share. I will make sure his daughter (and the rest of his family — he was a father only to daughters, saying that that made him a better man) see that he was loved in a larger circle and will be as fondly remembered as he will be dearly missed.
