It was obvious from the get-go, many warned you, and those warnings were often ridiculed and insulted.
I’ll use this article from the Guardian on the 28th Of October 2023 as an illustration
Israel is clear about its intentions in Gaza – world leaders cannot plead ignorance of what is coming
Prepare yourself for the revival of this phrase. As the calamity of Israel’s onslaught against Gaza becomes apparent, those who cheered it on will panic about reputational damage and plead their earlier ignorance. Do not let them get away with it this time.
In the aftermath of Hamas’s unjustifiable atrocity, Israel’s military onslaught has already slaughtered thousands of civilians, many of them children. That the worst is to come is not supposition, but evident from the public pronouncements of Israel’s political leaders.
“The emphasis is on damage, not accuracy,” declared the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). “Gaza will eventually turn into a city of tents,” said one IDF official, adding, “There will be no buildings.” Israel’s economy minister, Nir Barkat, told ABC News that hostages and civilian casualties will be secondary to destroying Hamas, “even if takes a year”.
*Bolding is mine, and I suggest reading the article.
Cries of:
Who could have known?
Who knew?
Anti-semitism!
These cries just won't cut it, it was bloody obvious, all you had to do was listen to the Israeli government's own words, nobody put these words in their mouths.
Insulting those presenting facts without well-sourced counter-evidence is just plain ignorant/disingenuous.
In my opinion, South Africa is owed an apology for their pre-emptive action at the ICJ, from those calling it a distraction, indeed?
At the UNSC today two proposals for a ceasefire will probably be put up for a vote.
One fluffy one [a serious use of obscure UNesque language] presented by the US that may be vetoed by Russia.
One simple one presented by Algeria [8 non-permanent members] that could be vetoed once again by the US.
I expect some interesting shenanigans.
Perhaps the cessation of aggression could also be extended to all the occupied territories, no, just a thought.
Note to whom it may concern:
Those of us on the progressive left are not always wrong, perhaps the Democratic Party should listen to us now and then.
