Hi ladies and gentlemen. The roadrunner here, once again broadcasting from the Grand Canyon State, aka the crucible of chaos, after a mid-winter hiatus. My apologies for the long absence, but when you’re a reptile eating avian residing at 5000+ feet elevation, January is slim pickins’ for lunch. So anyhoo, was saving my energy for Super Tuesday, so I could hang on the suspense of whether Nikki Haley would carry Vermont and if that 5-dollar bet I made that Jason Palmer would win American Samoa would pay off. (Spoiler alert: It did!?).
Also, in case you missed it, Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema announced she wasn’t seeking a bronze medal in the 2024 election, despite strong odds of achieving one, but instead chose to bow out altogether. Her ignominious exit created a new day in Arizona. where now Democrats are Democrats, Republicans are public policy arsonists, and Independents who try to stand halfway between apocalyptic insanity and reason are at long last irrelevant.
Also, ICYMI, Grand juries in Arizona are finally sending subpoenas to 2020 insurrectionists, aka Republican State Senators, who tried to subvert the constitution and overturn the 2020 election. Never a dull moment in Arizona.
First it goes without saying that yes, yes, you should support Ruben Gallego in his Senate race against Kari Lake (trying to overturn the 2020 and 2022 elections BOTH (!), if you’re keeping score at home). But for those of you looking to stretch your donor dollar a bit further into rescuing Arizona from the desperate jaws of MAGA bitter enders trying to repel Arizona’s rise from red to Deep Purple (Smoke on the water) to true blue, look no further than Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District where former Navajo Nation President and Pandemic-era real life superhero Jonathan Nez is trying to unseat Steve Bannon’s Favorite Congressman, Eli Crane.
Calling Crane Steve Bannon’s favorite Congressman isn’t hyperbole. Congressman Crane has had Bannon out for multiple visits to AZ2 including the Cowboy Church in Pinal County for Christmas and a recent appearance in Prescott, AZ for Groundhog’s Day. Kari Lake accompanied Crane and Bannon at the Prescott event. Birds of a feather flock together.
AZ-2 is a single digit R-leaning District, where a few dollars can make the difference between returning a far-right extremist and subservient Trump follower, Eli Crane, or helping elect a pragmatic proven leader and Arizona’s first Native American to Congress in Jonathan Nez.
Sinema’s departure from the Senate race has brought a lot of attention back to the critical stakes in Arizona, the penultimate battleground state, and ground zero in the war between Trump cult authoritarianism and representative government. The contrast isn’t just in the Presidential race or the US Senate race. It runs through Arizona’s 2nd congressional District, and in this rural district, any amount of help is appreciated as Jonathan Nez strives to topple Steve Bannon’s minion and bring sound people-centered policy back to rural Arizona.
