Greetings, beer lovers! Happy Friday, and once (or not) again, ‘tis chingchongchinaman as your very occasional guest FNBB blogger tonight, with esquimaux taking a well-earned Friday night off from FNBB duties. Connecting to Women’s History Month, and International Women’s Day: if you’re a Portlandia resident, so to speak, and are also into craft beer, then the subject in tonight’s FNBB header may already well be known to you, namely the 9th annual SheBrew craft beer festival that showcases female craft brewers in the Portland, OR region. The roster shows 54 craft breweries, only one of whose brand names sounded vaguely familiar to me in flyover country, namely Great Notion Brewing. KOIN 6 had this TV feature on this year’s SheBrew:
There are charitable aspects to SheBrew, on the serious and more lighthearted sides, respectively:
“…SheBrew is not only a celebration, it is an event honoring equality and supports all womxn and the LGBTQ community with proceeds to go to the Human Rights Campaign and the Oregon Brew Crew.”
In keeping, for once, with tonight’s theme, tonight’s featured FNBB selection chez 3CM is a Clutch It Pilsner, from Third Wheel Brewing in St. Peters, MO. Clutch It is a Czech-style pilsner, and thus has the edge in its flavor and feel that American-style pilsners tend to smooth out.
Also in keeping with esquimaux’s FNBB tradition of including a music video, while this selection has nothing to do with craft beer, it is a salute to the American composer Joan Tower, who turned 85 last year. This is from her series of Fanfares for the Uncommon Woman, Number 5 in the set, selected for no other reason than that it features musicians from the St. Louis Symphony :) :
With that, time to turn it over to you folks. What are you imbibing tonight? Anyone brewing their own? Bonus brownie points if your selection tonight is by a female craft brewer ;) .
