I’m changing up my usual Blue24.org fundraising diary a bit today.
Last month state legislative and statewide executive (Gov/AG/SoS) races only made up 21% of the $67,000 I raised for Democrats up & down the ballot combined.
Ideally, I’d like to see my fundraising efforts split roughly 50/50 between federal and state races.
As important as flipping the U.S. House and keeping the U.S. Senate blue are, it’s state-level races where small donations can really make a difference. Some state legislative campaigns can be won for less than six figures, depending on the district & state.
Therefore, today I’m going to promote the STATE LEGISLATIVE and STATEWIDE EXECUTIVE links.
As a reminder: For statewide races, I list every GOP state, no matter how deep red, because I trust people to understand that yes, Utah and West Virginia are extreme long shots for a Democrat; if they choose to donate to a Dem there, I assume they have their reasons. HOWEVER, I make sure to clearly label those races as being long shots.
For legislative races, with some exceptions, I only list districts which are either rated as tossup/lean by Cook Political Report (Congress), or which have a PVI rating under 10 according to Dave’s Redistricting (state legislatures).
I’ve raised $330,000 $343,000 $357,000 $358,000 $361,000 $366,000 so far this cycle and have set a soft target for myself of $4 million by November, but we’ll see how it goes.
The candidates listed are being filled in & may change a bit over time as various filing deadlines and primaries pass, as well as changing circumstances like nominees having to be replaced, etc.
