As if Floridians don’t suffer enough mass shootings as pointed out in Vetwife’s story on 09 April (Do people know this about private gun sales and Florida? Scary.), Georgia resident Taylon Nichelle Celestine (22) reportedly went on a shooting rampage in the Sunshine State on I-10 confessing “God told her to because of the solar eclipse”.
Two drivers were injured, some vehicles were damaged, and luckily no one was killed. The Florida Highway Patrol secured an AR-15 assault rifle and 9mm handgun from her car. Taylon Nichelle Celestine faces several charges, including attempted murder.
This poor 22-year old woman obviously needs psychiatric care. Yet, somehow she was able to purchase an assault rifle and 9mm handgun, presumably from her home state of Georgia. According to Mental Health America:
“Millions of Americans experience symptoms of a mental health condition each year, and the number of people seeking care is trending upward. 23.1% of US adults experienced a mental health condition in 2022.”
If mental health cases are trending upwards in the US while firearms laws remain lax, or even loosen, Americans can only expect more random or mass shootings. Recently there was a federal case pending whether the firearms ban for illegal immigrants was judged unconstitutional or not, but I am uncertain of the decision.
