Donald Trump said today that the Arizona Supreme Court’s ruling to enforce the state’s 160-year-old near-total abortion ban went too far.
"Yeah, they did," Trump said about the court's judges when asked if they went too far.
Huh? We all recall that less than two days ago Trump announced with fanfare that “it’s up to the states to do the right thing” on abortion.
“Many states will be different, many will have a different number of weeks or some will have more conservative than others, and that’s what they will be.”
Well, that didn’t last long.
Trump went on to say that Arizona's governor and others "are going to bring it back into reason” and get things “straightened out.” That would be Arizona’s Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs that Trump is relying to clean up the hellscape that he’s created? Trump did this.
So if I’ve got this right, Trump’s new, new position on abortion is to “leave it up to the states on abortion — except when a state goes ‘too far,’ although I won’t specify what ‘too far’ means. But when a state goes ‘too far’ I will expect a state’s governor and other state officials to ‘straighten it out,’ although I won’t specify what ‘straighten it out’ means, because we have to leave it up to the states.” Got it?
I prefer Joe Biden’s very clear message on abortion rights: he will codify federal abortion rights if you give him a Democratic Congress.
