This is one of my night blooming cactus plants. The flowers are the most spectacular magenta color and huge when they open. Even the buds are huge. The one in the middle of the picture is 6 inches long and nowhere near blooming.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

These bloom at night but unlike the white ones I have, these stay open into the late morning, then close up to reopen the next day. They can bloom for 2 or 3 days. The white ones bloom at about 10p, and are withered and dead by 5am.
I am not able to identify the type the magenta one is but that doesn’t matter to it. It will bloom tons of flowers when they mature. I have had 25 or 30 of the white ones bloom in one night but the magenta one is only a few years old here so it will have to built inventory. I got it as 2 or 3 long stems and just stuck them in dirt. They had buds on them when I got them and those bloomed!
I don’t have many flowers in my garden. I have a ruby red carnation that was given to me by my Saturday BFF when Rubi, dog of my heart died. She died on Memorial day 2014 and the plant blooms every year in May. I have succulents that bloom when the mood strikes them and the blooms are always interesting. I have an iris bulb I found last year, left by the original owners, that I am trying to coax into sending out a flower. I have amaryllis, in various stages of growth or death, as the case may turn out. Bulbs are weird. I also have a clivia that Lil Zen gave me. I think that’s it for the flower types. I probably have images of most of these but the image library is being balky, so you will have to google if you care that much.
Have a good day all.
