As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Greetings my friends, and welcome to another Saturday. Congratulations. We made it through another week, and here we are again. As many of you know, I have been under the care of various wound care doctors for quite some time now. Something happened in a recent visit that has me needing to vent. I apologize in advance, and if you would rather not indulge my tantrum, I promise to understand if you feel the need to give this week’s diary a miss.
Now first off, it is important to understand that on the whole, I like and respect the staff who spend their time and effort to take care of me, and try and help me to heal, I just had an unpleasant experience and I want to know if I am the only one.
The Nurse practitioner who saw me during this particular visit was someone I had never met before, so as usual, he took some time to introduce himself and explain what he was going to do. When he got to the point of telling me about the debridement, I said something about how it seemed counter-intuitive to continuously scrape at a wound until it bleeds, and still expect it to heal. So he explained it -again- in the exact same words, and asked me if it made sense that time. When I told him no. He responded by saying that I… “just wasn’t listening.” Keep in mind please, that I never refused the treatment, and I never spoke disrespectfully to him. I wasn’t shouting, and I wasn’t swearing, so why in the world was it appropriate for him to assume that because I disagreed with him, I… “just wasn’t listening?”
I get that I am not a medical professional. I do not know, or understand all of what they do. But I am capable of listening, and I am capable of disagreeing, and still admitting that they probably know better than I do. But do I have to put up with being spoken to that way, in order to receive the treatment I need?
/end of rant.
