I was addicted to the daily updates on Ukraine from Kos and other highly informed sources here. I miss the detailed explanations about the material (weapons & logistics) and training that would lead Ukraine to victory. We have all had to become more realistic since US support became so deeply threatened and since Russia’s capacity to weather losses brought Ukraine’s progress to a halt.
I am now hoping the military sages in this community will return to explaining what Ukraine will need to have and do to win. F-16s and tanks will not be enough. What additional weapons and intel will Ukraine need to break through the defenses the Russians have been allowed to build? I am impatient because Ukraine should not be forced to sacrifice its heroes while they wait for its allies “red lines” to soften.
What additional capabilities are essential to restore momentum, and how long would it take to for delivery and training? What would our own or NATO forces use to take Mariupol from the invaders? What would we do to the Russians’ Black Sea fleet if it fired its missiles at Turkey? Ukraine needs NATO level capabilities now. The alternative is to lock-in Putin’s gains, worse, it is to allow more Ukrainian territory to slip away.
I am relieved that Ukraine will receive new aid from the US, but I don’t know if we will provide all that is needed soon enough.
