When you click on EDIT, it gives you the “draft layer” of your diary.
You’ll see the words “STATUS: PUBLISHED” in the top of the black section of the big honking black&orange toolbox in the right portion of the draft layer/draft view. Just below that, in grey-on-black print will be the current title of your diary.
Make whatever changes to your diary that you wish (can change title if you like, too). Then hit SAVE DRAFT in the top/orange section of the toolbox.
and then click on PUBLISH CHANGES — orange print in the white bar low in the black section.
You’ll then get a request for confirmation — white box asking “Are you sure you want to publish this story now?” with choice of two buttons: Cancel if you want to wait, or PUBLISH CHANGES (white print on orange).
When you’re ready, Hit PUBLISH CHANGES, and that will take you back to the published, publicly readable layer of the diary, now in changed/edited form.
All diaries are pretty much infinitely re-editable! Some of my group index diaries have been re-edited hundreds of times :)
