The trial has now adjourned for the day with Davidson still fielding questions.
Davidson continues to comment on Cohen, calling him “highly excitable” and emphasizing the difficulty of closing the deal for Stormy Daniels. Though the money was due on Oct 14, and Cohen promised to pay it himself on Oct 18, it wasn’t until Davidson again pushed Cohen a week later that something actually happened.
At the very end of the day, prosecutors got to an email from Cohen that was forwarded through First Republic Bank, tying back to testimony from Gary Farro. Prosecutors have followed the deal through from just about every angle, but it’s still unclear if either Davidson or Farro had any evidence that Trump was behind the funding other than statements by Cohen.
If “follow the money” is still the guiding principle, they’ve followed the money from Cohen’s pocket, through First Republic, to Daniels. But all of this is preliminary (if necessary) because everything that’s in the indictment concerns how the money went from Trump to Cohen.
There is no trial in the morning. The gag order hearing that was initially set for Wednesday afternoon has now been moved to 9:30 AM ET on Thursday. The jury was instructed to return at 10:00 AM ET on Thursday when we’re likely to see the defense cross-examine Davidson.
Based on hints from earlier in the day, we may see either Karen McDougal or Stormy Daniels on the stand once Davidson is done. From the order of questioning so far, it wouldn’t be surprising to see McDougal up first.
