Just another morning bicycle ride, down the bicycle path, over to Dellinger’s Pond, and out to Spanish Creek, around American Valley, Quincy, CA.
Evening Grosbeak, female
On Spanish Creek
The title photo bird.
American Valley, Quincy, CA. Sunday morning serenity.
Too darn cute for words.
On the bicycle path, Quincy
Pied-billed Grebe, on the nest. Dellinger’s Pond.
Even the “plain” Red-winged Blackbird female has grace and elegance.
The Red-tailed Hawk, female I’m presuming because it’s alone in the nest and an earlier photo showed only its head visible; I’m guessing brooding eggs. On a hillside above Spanish Creek. The Red-tailed Hawks used this nest last year.
Spotted Towhee at Dellinger’s Pond
For now I’m calling the pursuit of a photo of the Virginia Rail at Dellinger’s Pond a “fail”. I go over to its known and verified (by me and others) precise location at the pond and nearly every time I will hear it call (see video below for the sounds, only) but not one glimpse of this secretive bird.
That doesn’t mean I’m giving up. Just not searching deliberately any more. Maybe serendipity is in my future?
Now it’s your turn. What’s up in your world of ongoing and changing nature? Let us know in the comments, and please share your location and any photos if you have them.
