Best Laid Plans….
We have been in a post carding group for many years, which has written thousands and thousands of political postcards for campaigns across the country. Initially we met at someone’s home or other venue, but Covid forced us to having our weekly meetings on Zoom. Through all of this we have developed a relationship.
Last week’s Kitchen Table was about our visit to Crane Canyon Regional Park, and on our Zoom meeting I mentioned our enthusiasm for the visit. It was proposed that we meet there as a group in “real life”, and the plan was hatched.
I expected the parking lot to be jammed today. but when we arrived a few cars from our group were parked on the road near the entrance; the park was closed. Behind warning tapes was a pile of blackened debris, including burned wires. It looked as though a car, perhaps an EV, had burned in the park entrance.
We reconsidered, and proposed meeting up at our beloved Spring Lake, with which everyone was familiar. After a few glitches, resolved via phone calls, we regrouped and had a fine hike and much good conversation. A stymied plan turned positive.
Google provided no information about the burned auto, but we had already proposed creative scenarios, including drug running or Tesla failure.
One interesting result of the changed plan. As you can imagine, it’s an intensely political group, and yet, out in nature, we got to know each other in a totally different way. We never mentioned the potential looming disaster for our country, though it’s never far from our minds.
On a food note, my second attempt at Jessica Seinfeld’s Ginger Salmon with Sesame Cucumbers www.delish.com/… came out better than ever, now that we understand the broiler in our stove. Better than any fish I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Try it; you’ll like it.
