Admiral William McRaven is one of Time Magazine's runners-up for their Person of the Year award. While many on dKos are celebrating the fact that Time named "The Protester" as Person of the Year, I hope everyone takes time to read what the admiral has to say about our president.
Here's an excerpt to ensure you go over there and read the whole thing:
McRaven speaks respectfully of bush as Commander in Chief, saying he "made some very, very tough decisions." About Obama, without a question to prompt him, he waxes lyrical and at length. The planning and decisionmaking for the bin Laden raid, he volunteers, "was really everything the American public would expect from their national leadership."
"The President was at all times presidential," he says. "I would contend he was the smartest guy in the room. He had leadership skills we'd expect from a guy who had 35 years in the military."

Admiral McRaven's own story is quite compelling. He is a true American hero, someone who has served our country with honor and distinction, who is an original thinker on defense issues, and who has rightly risen through the ranks to a key leadership position in our government. I sleep better at night knowing that men and women like him are watching over our military. I sleep way better at night with Barack Obama as our president.
10:42 AM PT: Update at 1:30pm Eastern: I've been reading this site since the election of 2004, and always regarded it as my political home away from home. I've been inspired by so many of the writers here, who have shared their personal stories, or done tremendous amounts of research on somewhat arcane topics, sharing it all with us, helping us to become better informed. And better progressive Democrats, or at least that's part of what I see Markos' mission to be.
So it's truly...weird to be sitting on top of the rec list right now, for the first time ever (first time on the rec list ever, actually), with a diary so weak.
So, two things: please think about donating to the subscription campaign, about which more can be found here: http://www.dailykos.com/...
And secondly: Thanks, from an old timer (userid: 38502). I love the Giant Orange Satan, I read it every day, and even when I don't comment much or diary (hardly ever), I'm so grateful DailyKos is here.
